Wear loose clothing and bring something to keep you warm during relaxation (a sweater or a blanket and socks as traditionally yoga is practised barefoot).
Mats are available but you can buy your own, if you wish, for around £7. You may also want to bring a small cushion for your head when lying down or to sit on.
Yoga is non-competitive. You work within the limits of your own body. Never compare your efforts in adopting a posture with that of other members of the group. You should never feel pain or discomfort in your practice.
Before the class, please let me know if you have any medical conditions e.g. high blood pressure, immobility of joints, strained muscles, etc. so that I can let you know the modifications you can make in the postures. Remember that you are responsible for your own body and personal safety in the class. I am here only to guide you and will not accept responsibility for your actions. Only you can tell how it feels and when to stop practice.
Are there places available in your classes?
Yes, but please contact me first before you attend.
Can I attend your yoga class if I am pregnant?
My classes are not the best place for you, especially if you have not practised yoga before. Please contact the BWY Local Representative, Ruth Nichol (formerly Little) at ruthylittle@hotmail.com
Also Sarah Giles, who was in my Yoga Teachers' Diploma Group, teaches Pregnancy Yoga in small groups from her lovely home in the Richmond/Darlington area. The yoga classes are suitable for from 14 weeks to birth and no experience of yoga is necessary.
